
Korean Popcorn Chicken
Korean style popcorn chicken recipe. It's a type of Korean fried chicken! It's crunchy and coated with sticky, sweet, tangy and spicy sauce! A perfect crowd pleaser!
Ingredients
Chicken
- 500 g chicken breast/thigh cut into bite sized pieces
- 1 Tbsp rice wine
- 2 tsp ginger powder
- ½ tsp sea salt
- ¼ tsp ground black pepper
- 1 cup potato/corn starch
- oil for deep frying rice bran
Sauce
- 5 Tbsp tomato sauce
- 1 ½ Tbsp gochujang
- 2 Tbsp honey
- 2 Tbsp dark brown sugar
- 1 Tbsp soy sauce
- 2 tsp sesame oil
- ½ tsp minced garlic
Instructions
Chicken
- place chicken in a bowl and add rice wine, ginger, salt and pepper; mix.
- cover bowl with gladwrap and refrigerate for 30mins
- coat each piece of chicken with starch powder
- pour oil in pot until it reaches 175C (or boiling)
- deep fry chicken pieces until golden & cooked through (2-3 mins)
- set aside on paper towel to drain
- NOTE: double fry for extra crunch
Sauce
- mix all ingrdients in a bowl
- bring sauce to boil (1-2 mins)
- toss chicken in sauce
- garnish with crushed nuts or sesame seeds
